My pony has really bad bridal problems please help x?

i have a new pony and the previous owner loaned it out and the loaners hit it over the head with something either the bridal or headcollar and i have finally mastered the headcollar but the bridal is hardwork it gets me stressed out and my pony she lifts her head really high and backs away she's fine when she has got it on but i really need advice on getting the bridal on please help
