Was it gay of me to buy him flowers?

I’m a construction manager, and one of the foreman on my site did an excellent job during the project as he has quite large biceps and firm buttocks, so on the last day of construction I thanked him for all his hardwork and gave him a dozen long stem roses, he looked at me strangely and then left without saying alots.
